My research focuses on understanding the neural and neuropharmacological substrates of emotion and motivation, and the manner in which individual differences in the functioning of these systems impact psychopathology. I use neuroimaging to explore the functions of the amygdala, orbitofrontal cortex, and mesolimbic dopamine (DA) system. A key aim of this work is to understand how neuroimaging markers are related to transdiagnostic dimensions of psychopathology. This work also aims to determine how differences in DA functioning are related to personality factors such as novelty seeking and impulsivity that are known to increase the risk for addiction.
