Dear Rutgers Addiction Research Center Community,
We invite all researchers with an interest in cannabis-related research to join a newly established Interest Group on Cannabis within the RARC.
As you may be aware, in 2022, Congress passed the Medical Marijuana and Cannabidiol Research Expansion Act (H.R. 8454) to address barriers to cannabis research. The Act recognizes that research on the impacts of cannabis is necessary – it is now legal for medical use in 39 states and Washington D.C. and adult use in 21 states and D.C. The Act will enable further studies to be conducted to more fully understand the impacts of cannabis on the human body by streamlining the application process for scientific marijuana studies and removing existing barriers for researchers that frequently slow the research process. As both recreational and medical cannabis use become more widespread, research in this area remains in its early stages. The RARC would like to support Rutgers investigators in leading the way for this research.
The primary goal of this interest group is to develop an inventory of on-going cannabis research being conducted at Rutgers, build on the current research to fill in gaps, develop new lines of research, and strengthen collaboration among Rutgers cannabis researchers.
If you are interested in joining this interest group, please take a few minutes to register your interest on the survey below. We will then convene interested parties for an initial meeting.
