Dr. Mauro’s research examines multi-level drivers of substance use treatment need, availability, use, and outcomes over the lifecourse through a health equity lens. Her work at the intersection of behavioral health epidemiology, health services, and health policy leverages large administrative data sources and applies rigorous epidemiologic methods. Dr. Mauro is the Principal Investigator of a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) R01 project examining relationships between community-level exposure to the criminal legal system and substance use treatment-related outcomes. In 2024, she presented her NIDA K01-funded work on cannabis policy impacts on treatment to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM).
