Rutgers’ Psych Department Presentation with Annie Maheux, PhD – “Coming of Age with Generative AI: Adolescent Mental Health at the Next Digital Frontier”

Adolescents’ adoption of generative AI chatbots has skyrocketed, with unknown impacts for mental health and development. Drawing on passive sensing, keystroke dynamics, natural language processing, scale development, and longitudinal school-based surveys, Dr. Maheux will describe how youth engage with AI and the potential mental health implications of different usage patterns. She will close by outlining research priorities and potential intervention, design, and policy strategies to support youth well-being in the age of AI.

Annie Maheux, PhD (developmental psychologist at UNC-Chapel Hill) will be joining Rutgers’ Psych department on Friday, March 27th from12-1PM to present her research, Coming of Age with Generative AI: Adolescent Mental Health at the Next Digital Frontier”. The event will be hosted in Psych Building Room 105 (Busch campus), as part of Developmental Fridays (led by Drs. Michelle Hurst and Jenny Wang in Psych). Everyone is welcome to attend in person (light refreshments will be provided).
