SUMMARY:The Eighth Annual BHI Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Please save the date for the Eighth Annual BHI Symposium\, which will be held on Friday\, December 2nd\, 2022 at Busch Student Center in Piscataway. It will feature talks by Rutgers faculty presenting their cutting-edge research. The afternoon session includes student/post-doc poster presentations with cash awards to the top three best posters. \nThe keynote speaker for this year is Constance Cepko\, Ph.D. Dr. Cepko is Bullard Professor of Genetics and Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator. She trained in virology with Phil Sharp at MIT for a Ph.D. and later with Richard Mulligan at the MIT Whitehead Institute. She helped develop retroviral vectors for transduction into the nervous system for lineage analysis and for studies of gene function in vivo. Her laboratory has focused on the topic of cell fate determination in the retina through the analysis of the behavior of progenitor and stem cells. More recently\, they have been studying the mechanisms of photoreceptor death in diseases that cause blindness\, such as retinitus pigmentosa and macular degeneration. \nSymposium program available by clicking here. \nThe deadline for poster abstract submission and early registration is November 1\, 2022. Please register by clicking here. \nEarly registration by November 1\, 2022\, is via a secure online portal with credit card ($50 Faculty; $20 trainees). \n

SUMMARY:Rutgers SSW Webinar: Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating
DESCRIPTION:Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating: Examining Clinical Language & Deconstructing Pathology-Based Lenses in the Therapy Room \nThis course examines the clinical lens of eating disorders and treatment\, including the language and conceptualizations of the current categories of eating disorders as seen in the DSM. Participants will critically examine the language used to categorize disordered eating\, taking into account missing variables that contribute to one’s individual relationship with food\, including sociocultural oppressive forces within the food industry\, food policy\, and food marketing. Special attention will be paid to developing a non-pathology-based therapeutic lens when working with individuals struggling with their relationship with food. In the latter part of the course. \nInstructor: Katherine Glick\, MEd\, LPC\, LCADC\, ACS\, CMH\nDate: Wednesday\, December 7\, 2022\nTime: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm ET\nLocation: Zoom (Interactive Webinar)\nRegistration: Click here

SUMMARY:BHI/CAHBIR Webinar: The Neural Mechanics of Changing Your Mind
DESCRIPTION:December 7\, 2022 at 10:00-11:15am (EST) \nHumans and other mammals exhibit a high degree of control when selecting actions in a dynamic and constantly changing world. This flexibility in decision-making is mediated by a set of cortical-subcortical circuits in the brain that control both how sensory information drives action selection and how feedback signals modify future decisions. In this talk I will highlight the neural mechanics of this flexible decision-making and show how this gives us insights into the algorithms by which mammals change their minds. \nInstructor: Timothy Verstynen Ph.D.\nAssociate Professor\, Co-Director CMU-Pitt BRIDGE Center\nDept. Psychology\, CMNI\, Biomedical Engineering\, Carnegie Mellon University \nAbout the Speaker: Dr. Verstynen received his Ph.D. in Psychology from UC Berkeley and went on to do postdoctoral training in computational neuroscience at UCSF and cognitive neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently an Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in the Department of Psychology and the Carnegie Mellon Neuroscience Institute\, with a cross appointment in Biomedical engineering. Dr. Verstynen directs the Cognitive Axon Lab\, where he studies decision-making and learning. He is also the Co-Director of the CMU-Pitt BRIDGE Center\, a research dedicated MRI center with a strong emphasis on computational neuroimaging. Along with his research\, Dr. Verstynen also engages in various science outreach projects\, most notably using zombies to teach neuroscience in the book Do Zombies Dream of Undead Sheep? that he co-authored with Dr. Bradley Voytek at UCSD. \n  \nJoin Zoom Meeting: https://rutgers.zoom.us/j/95612200628?pwd=Tk1pR0xOTkdKZ0xmS1JjNkRTTDFGZz09 \n Meeting ID: 956 1220 0628\nPassword: 120722

SUMMARY:Academy Health 15th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nFor more information: Click here \nThrough a combination of plenaries\, workshops\, breakout\, and poster sessions\, the 15th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health\, co-hosted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and AcademyHealth\, supports the collective understanding of the research agenda\, puts forth new findings\, and identifies research priorities to set the field up for the next decade. \nThis year’s theme\, (Re)Building Better Systems: Being Proactive\, Nimble\, and Responsive\, will build upon lessons learned about rapidly changing community health and clinical settings to envisioning new models for conducting D&I science that respond to the shifting needs of diverse systems and populations\, and use flexible and rigorous methodologies to anticipate challenges and ongoing change. To make large-scale gains in health at a population level\, we must consider the integration of scientific discoveries within varied contexts and populations\, in the face of dynamic evidence\, competing demands\, and diverse stakeholder priorities.
