SUMMARY:NeC-ROTAC Webinar: The Interconnection between Health Equity\, the Social Determinants of Health and the Impact of Intersectionality (in Rural Communities)
DESCRIPTION:As we lean more and more into equity in a variety of spaces and places\, health equity has become a significant part of this ongoing conversation. Health equity and the social determinants of health are interconnected in a variety of ways when working with our clients\, not just around health outcomes\, but improving their overall quality of life. Another aspect to this connection is the concept of intersectionality and how it has an impact on how and why clients may or may not access care or have adequate access to receive care. This workshop will lean into the connection between health equity\, the social determinants of health\, and intersectionality. \nFor registration: click here. \nPlease note: Tickets are not needed for this event. The Zoom link will be included in the confirmation email.\nTrainer:\nDr. Delores Blackwell\, LCSW

SUMMARY:NeC-ROTAC Webinar: How to Have the Conversation: Talking about Substance Use and Mental Health (in Rural Spaces)
DESCRIPTION:One of the most significant challenges that we all have is starting the conversation around substance use and mental health. Although we may feel more prepared to have these conversations in specific community spaces\, they can happen at any time and in any space. This workshop will focus on providing the tools to start the conversation whenever the opportunity arises. We will be focusing on tools and talking points that anyone from a provider to a community member can use to engage individuals around behavioral health. We will also discuss the impact of stigma and fear regarding disclosing the need for services\, and how to support individuals around accessing and staying engaged in services that meet their individual needs. \nFor registration: click here. \nPlease note: Tickets are not needed for this event. SUMMARY:SSW Webinar - Addiction and Recovery: Where We Have Been\, Where We Are Going
DESCRIPTION:This course examines how the field of addiction treatment and recovery has evolved since the development of 12-step recovery spaces in the 1950’s\, from societal conceptualizations about addiction to how treatment and evidence-based practices have shaped what we now call clinical addiction treatment. Particular attention will be paid to how paradigms\, stigma\, and oppressive systems have influenced and shaped addiction and treatment trends. Participants will critically examine the successes and pitfalls of addiction treatment as it stands today\, including specific models and systems of recovery and what the field calls “evidence-based practices”. Special attention will be paid to how the fields of neuroscience\, epigenetics\, and neuropharmacology have informed what we know today about addiction\, and what it means for integrative recovery strategies moving forward. \n\n\n\nInstructor: \nKat Glick\, M.Ed\, LPC\, ACS\, MAC\, CSE\, CIMHP\n\n\nDate: \nWednesday\, January 8\, 2025\n\n\nTime: \n10:00 am – 1:00 pm ET\n\n\nLocation: \nLive Interactive Online Webinar

SUMMARY:Responsive Care: The Experiences of Women and Children along the Care Continuum in Rural Communities
DESCRIPTION:As the number of individuals who are challenged by substance use and mental health continue to be on the rise\, we are at a crossroads when it comes to the care of women and their children. While the number of programs who offer specific services to women and their children are increasing across the state\, there continues to be need for more gender-responsive programming in substance use and mental health programs to address the unique needs of women and their children. This challenge is even more significant in rural communities where there are significant barriers to service accessibility. This workshop will lean into specific challenges as they relate to women impacted by both substance use and mental health concerns and the impact on children in their care. \nPresenter: Dr. Delores Blackwell\, LCSW\, is a multijurisdictional licensed clinical social worker. She has held numerous administrative and clinical positions within both the addictions and mental health disciplines. She is an adjunct professor at both Touro College and Hunter College Silberman Schools of Social Work. In conjunction with her numerous roles\, she also conducts and develops trainings for mental health and addictions professionals in both direct practice and leadership positions. She is currently a Research Project Manager at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University Medical Center\, where she works with the Opioid Response Network and Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Center within the Northeast and Caribbean (HHS Region 2).

SUMMARY:NIAAA Webinar: How Does Alcohol Impact the Lives of Older Adults – And What Can We Do About It?
DESCRIPTION:  \nPlease join the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) for an informative and interactive free webinar: How Does Alcohol Impact the Lives of Older Adults – And What Can We Do About It? \nAs the population of older adults 65 and above expands rapidly\, so do the rates of alcohol use and misuse among people within this age group. The body changes as we age\, and these changes render people more susceptible to some of the harms that stem from alcohol use. While the percentage of people ages 65+ who consume alcohol each month increased by 16% between 2002-2019\, due to the size of the aging Baby Boomer cohort\, the actual number of drinkers in that age group increased 80% during that time. These data highlight the need for early intervention and a broad discussion on what we can do to prevent further upward trends. \nThis webinar will feature three presentations: \n• Trends in Alcohol Use Among Older Adults\nKatherine Keyes\, Ph.D.\, Columbia University \n• What are the Impacts of Alcohol Use in Older Adults?\nSara Jo Nixon\, Ph.D.\, University of Florida \n• What Can We Do About It?\nCynthia Campbell\, Ph.D.\, Kaiser Permanente Northern California\nDerek Satre\, Ph.D.\, University of California\, San Francisco \nPlease note – a Q and A session will follow the three presentations. \nTo join this free webinar\, please send an RSVP by Monday\, November 25\, 2024\, to dana.west@icf.com. \nNIH Videocast will present the webinar at https://videocast.nih.gov/watch=55237.
