SUMMARY:NJHRC's Monthly Person-Centered Overdose Education & Naloxone Training
DESCRIPTION:Evidence shows that among the most likely to witness an overdose are people who use drugs\, care providers\, neighbors\, and loved ones – none of which are mutually exclusive\, and all of which may include you. NJHRC will be hosting monthly virtual Overdose Education & Naloxone training to learn how to identify and respond to an opioid overdose with rescue breaths\, naloxone\, and radical love. Our program will also cover the nuances surrounding current drug supply trends\, with updated information as overdose responses evolve in correlation. By centering the safety and autonomy of both the individual receiving care and the responder\, we can produce better outcomes for the community at large. \nJoin us for our next training to learn how to respond to an overdose and keep your community safer. \nAttendees in New Jersey can email mailing@njharmreduction.org or call/text 1-877-4NARCAN if they’d like to receive a free naloxone kit and/or other safer use supplies by mail. Conversations on drug policy and drug supply may be centered around New Jersey\, but you are welcome in this training no matter your location. \nThis virtual training will be held on Zoom on the second Friday of every month. (May 9\, June 12\, July 11\, Aug 8\, Sept 12\, Oct 11)\nRegister now to reserve your spot!

SUMMARY:SSW Webinar - Addiction and Recovery: Where We Have Been\, Where We Are Going
DESCRIPTION:This course examines how the field of addiction treatment and recovery has evolved since the development of 12-step recovery spaces in the 1950’s\, from societal conceptualizations about addiction to how treatment and evidence-based practices have shaped what we now call clinical addiction treatment. Particular attention will be paid to how paradigms\, stigma\, and oppressive systems have influenced and shaped addiction and treatment trends. Participants will critically examine the successes and pitfalls of addiction treatment as it stands today\, including specific models and systems of recovery and what the field calls “evidence-based practices”. Special attention will be paid to how the fields of neuroscience\, epigenetics\, and neuropharmacology have informed what we know today about addiction\, and what it means for integrative recovery strategies moving forward. \n\n\n\nInstructor: \nKat Glick\, M.Ed\, LPC\, ACS\, MAC\, CSE\, CIMHP\n\n\nDate: \nTuesday\, May 6\, 2025\n\n\nTime: \n10:00 am – 1:00 pm ET\n\n\nLocation: \nLive Interactive Online Webinar

SUMMARY:Addiction Policy Forum Webinar - Improving Mental Health Outcomes: 59 Essential Evidence-Based Practices for Communities\, Police\, Courts\, Jails\, and Community Corrections
DESCRIPTION:Join Drs. Jennifer Johnson and Faye S. Taxman for a discussion on results from their study exploring evidence-based mental health practices for individuals involved in the justice system or at risk of becoming involved in the justice system. These practices can be used in communities or police\, court\, jail\, and community corrections settings. Their work has shown that a lack of community mental health and substance use services in communities predicts higher per capita jail populations. Therefore\, strengthening community mental health services is important for preventing jail incarceration and re-incarceration. \n\nThis webinar will cover findings from the study\, which identified 59 evidence-based practices–ranging from trauma-informed care and diversion to mental health treatment to therapeutic or medication-based interventions—that could significantly improve support\, treatment\, recovery\, and overall health outcomes and help prevent incarceration and re-incarceration.\n\nFor more details and registration\, click here.
