SUMMARY:48th Annual RSA Scientific Meeting/ISBRA Congress
DESCRIPTION:The primary goal of the Annual Scientific Meeting (“Meeting”) is to provide a forum for alcohol researchers – from all disciplines – to present their latest findings and to learn about new research developments in an environment that will provide interaction at both the professional and personal level. \nThe Meeting begins with an Opening Reception (meet and greet style) on Saturday evening and ends with the Closing Ceremony (sit-down dinner with presentations) on Wednesday evening. The Sunday through Wednesday program includes plenary lectures\, symposia\, workshops\, roundtable discussions\, Enoch Gordis Award and Doctoral Student Small Grants paper sessions and poster sessions. \nThe Program Committee is made up of RSA members who represent a wide range of scientific specialties.  Their goal is to develop a well-balanced program that adequately reflects the broad range of interests of the RSA membership and non-member alcohol researchers.  It is important to note that topics covered and the balance achieved in the overall meeting program primarily rests upon proposals submitted. \nFor more information \, click here.

SUMMARY:SSW Webinar - Medical and Legal Marijuana in NJ: Practice and Policy Issues
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this interactive webinar is to identify the changes that have occurred in the NJ Medical Marijuana Program. The history of marijuana legalization and major events that have shaped this history are discussed. Known scientific research on the benefits of medical marijuana and the risks associated with marijuana usage are covered\, as well as the continued barriers to better scientific research on this topic. Interactive exercises are incorporated in order to have participants analyze child custody issues for clients who are on the NJ medical marijuana program. Other exercises include the participants discussing how treatment is impacted by medical marijuana and participants will analyze under what conditions there would be a “duty to report” a coworker on medical marijuana. \n\n\n\nInstructor: \nGlenn Duncan\, LPC\, LCADC\, CCS\, ACS\n\n\nDate: \nTuesday\, June 17\, 2025\n\n\nTime: \n9:30 am – 12:30 pm ET\n\n\nLocation: \nLive Interactive Online Webinar\n\n\n\nAt the conclusion of this webinar\, participants will be able to: \n\nInterpret three changes that have occurred since 2019 in the NJ Medicinal Marijuana Program\nDetermine the situations where the use of medicinal marijuana influence child custody issues\nAnalyze whether to continue services for a client on medicinal marijuana if their only diagnosis is cannabis use disorder\nIdentify at least three key historical events that shaped marijuana’s legal status in the United States

SUMMARY:NJHRC's Monthly Person-Centered Overdose Education & Naloxone Training
DESCRIPTION:Evidence shows that among the most likely to witness an overdose are people who use drugs\, care providers\, neighbors\, and loved ones – none of which are mutually exclusive\, and all of which may include you. NJHRC will be hosting monthly virtual Overdose Education & Naloxone training to learn how to identify and respond to an opioid overdose with rescue breaths\, naloxone\, and radical love. Our program will also cover the nuances surrounding current drug supply trends\, with updated information as overdose responses evolve in correlation. By centering the safety and autonomy of both the individual receiving care and the responder\, we can produce better outcomes for the community at large. \nJoin us for our next training to learn how to respond to an overdose and keep your community safer. \nAttendees in New Jersey can email mailing@njharmreduction.org or call/text 1-877-4NARCAN if they’d like to receive a free naloxone kit and/or other safer use supplies by mail. Conversations on drug policy and drug supply may be centered around New Jersey\, but you are welcome in this training no matter your location. \nThis virtual training will be held on Zoom on the second Friday of every month. (June 12\, July 11\, Aug 8\, Sept 12\, Oct 11)\nRegister now to reserve your spot!

SUMMARY:APF Webinar: Building Effective Public Health Communications Campaigns on Substance Use Treatment and Overdose Prevention
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a three-part webinar series that explores how to design and deliver effective public health communications campaigns related to addressing substance use disorders and overdose\, drawing directly from the experiences of the HEALing Communities Study (HCS)\, a multi-state\, community-driven effort to reduce overdose deaths in 66 communities across Kentucky\, Massachusetts\, New York\, and Ohio.  \n\n\nThe goals of the campaign were to: 1) increase acceptability and demand for evidence-based practices (EBPs) to treat opioid misuse\, opioid use disorder (OUD)\, and opioid overdose death; and 2) decrease stigma toward people who use opioids\, OUD\, and EBPs\, especially the use of medications for OUD. HCS coalitions successfully implemented four main distinct campaigns tailored to local needs\, which included campaigns that focused on: \n\n\n\n\nObtaining and carrying naloxone \n\n\nDecreasing MOUD stigma \n\n\nRaising awareness of MOUD treatment \n\n\nStaying in MOUD treatment \n\n\nBased on lessons learned from the HCS\, each session will offer practical guidance\, real-world case studies\, and actionable tools to help attendees prepare\, plan\, and sustain communications efforts in their community. Attendees will hear from HCS communications leaders about the implementation of the campaigns in the field and lessons learned along the way.\nFr more information\, click here.\n

(May 9\, June 12\, July 11\, Aug 8\, Sept 12\, Oct 11)\nRegister now to reserve your spot!

SUMMARY:SSW Webinar - Addiction and Recovery: Where We Have Been\, Where We Are Going
DESCRIPTION:This course examines how the field of addiction treatment and recovery has evolved since the development of 12-step recovery spaces in the 1950’s\, from societal conceptualizations about addiction to how treatment and evidence-based practices have shaped what we now call clinical addiction treatment. Particular attention will be paid to how paradigms\, stigma\, and oppressive systems have influenced and shaped addiction and treatment trends. Participants will critically examine the successes and pitfalls of addiction treatment as it stands today\, including specific models and systems of recovery and what the field calls “evidence-based practices”. Special attention will be paid to how the fields of neuroscience\, epigenetics\, and neuropharmacology have informed what we know today about addiction\, and what it means for integrative recovery strategies moving forward. \n\n\n\nInstructor: \nKat Glick\, M.Ed\, LPC\, ACS\, MAC\, CSE\, CIMHP\n\n\nDate: \nTuesday\, May 6\, 2025\n\n\nTime: \n10:00 am – 1:00 pm ET\n\n\nLocation: \nLive Interactive Online Webinar
